Now in its 29th year, the Marina de Vilamoura International Boat Show is Southern Europe’s premier open-water nautical exhibition — a nine-day showcase of vessels, technology, and maritime lifestyle set against Portugal’s most celebrated marina.
The Marina de Vilamoura International Boat Show has been held annually since 1997, making it one of the longest-running nautical exhibitions in the Iberian Peninsula. Organised by Marina de Vilamoura in partnership with the Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL) — Portugal’s principal trade fair operator — and supported by the Municipality of Loulé, the event has grown steadily from a regional showcase into a recognised fixture on the Southern European maritime calendar.
Over nearly three decades, the show has played a significant role in establishing Vilamoura as a reference destination for recreational boating in Europe. Its format — boats exhibited directly in the water rather than on dry land — has always set it apart, and remains one of its most distinctive and commercially effective features.
The show attracts more than 100,000 visitors each year, with approximately half travelling from outside Portugal — making it one of the most internationally attended nautical events in Southern Europe.
The show is anchored by its exceptional setting. Marina de Vilamoura is the largest marina in Portugal, with 825 berths capable of accommodating vessels of varying sizes and draught. It has received multiple international quality awards and is consistently ranked among the leading marinas in Europe for its infrastructure, services, and management standards.
The marina’s deep-water layout and open pontoon access make it uniquely suited to hosting a boat show. Vessels are moored in their natural environment, accessible to visitors from multiple vantage points, and available for boarding where exhibitors permit. This real-world context — something no indoor exhibition hall can replicate — creates a fundamentally different experience for both buyers and browsers.
Beyond the moorings, the marina is surrounded by a well-developed promenade with restaurants, bars, and retail, providing a complete day-out environment that extends the show’s appeal well beyond specialist audiences.
VESSELS
The 29th edition will present over 100 vessels across all major categories, including motor yachts, sailing boats, RIBs, sport boats, and pre-owned brokerage craft. Both new model launches and quality second-hand vessels are represented, giving the show genuine breadth across buyer profiles and budgets.
- NEW VESSELS
Premieres and launches from leading European and international boatbuilders, including world and regional debuts. Several brands are using the 2026 show as their primary launch platform for new season models.
- BROKERAGE & PRE-OWNED
A curated selection of pre-owned vessels creates an active secondary market within the show, attracting buyers across a wider price range and generating significant transactional activity dockside.
- EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY
Navigation systems, marine electronics, propulsion technology, safety equipment, and deck hardware from specialist suppliers and global brands including Yamaha, Volvo Penta, and Garmin.
LIFESTYLE & SERVICES
Insurance, charter services, marina management, yacht maintenance, and water sports equipment round out the commercial offer, reflecting the full lifecycle of boat ownership.
For the nautical industry, Vilamoura serves as the principal B2B and B2C platform for the Iberian market. The show draws a broad professional audience — buyers, investors, business partners, sector regulators, and media — alongside a large general public contingent, creating an unusual dual-purpose environment that few European events manage as effectively.
The 2026 edition has already recorded strong exhibitor demand ahead of opening, with both domestic and international companies reporting high interest and limited available space. Organisers describe the commercial outlook as the most dynamic in recent years, driven by new model launches, active brokerage, and accelerating interest in marine technology innovation — particularly in the areas of electrification and connected navigation systems.
The show’s impact extends well beyond the marina gates. The nine-day event generates measurable activity across the wider Vilamoura and Loulé municipality, filling hotels, boosting restaurant trade, and increasing demand for transport and ancillary services during what is already the beginning of the Algarve’s peak tourism season.
With roughly half of all visitors travelling from abroad, the event functions as a meaningful driver of inbound tourism — a consideration that has secured the continued backing of both the Municipality of Loulé and regional tourism bodies. For the Algarve as a destination, the show reinforces an image of high-quality, year-round offer beyond the region’s well-known beach product.
The show draws a deliberately broad audience. On the professional side: naval architects, brokers, marine equipment suppliers, charter operators, marina managers, and financial services firms with marine portfolios. On the public side: existing boat owners, prospective buyers at all stages of the purchase journey, water sports enthusiasts, and casual visitors drawn by the spectacle of the marina in full show mode. The free admission policy — unusual for an event of this scale — is a deliberate choice that keeps visitor numbers high and the atmosphere inclusive.
