Benagil Caves – A Natural Wonder in the Algarve
The **Benagil Caves** are a remarkable natural sea cave formation along Portugal’s southern Algarve coast, near the small fishing village of Benagil. Shaped over thousands of years by wind and Atlantic waves, the cave is best known for its vast domed chamber and a circular opening in the ceiling—often called a “skylight”—that lets sunlight stream onto the golden sand below. The cave can only be accessed from the sea by boat as there is no direct land entrance. Its dramatic rock walls, turquoise water, and play of light make Benagil one of Portugal’s most photographed and celebrated natural attractions.
